Abeātis- Neon Colors in Fashion
Neon in Greek literally
translates to “new one”, which is quite in accordance with the neon color when
it was first invented and shown to the public as something new. The neon
pigment was discovered in the nineteenth century. About the creation of first
neon colors, we do have a kind of gruesome story and interesting facts.
The first-ever neon color was ghost
blood blue, also known as ghost blood, and then later referred to as Electric
Blue. It was said to be one of the byproducts created by injecting the silver
nitrate into the veins of human beings. And the other byproduct is a human
corpse. It does sound a bit gruesome, right? When later advancements found new
ways of producing the pigment by greatly dropping the cost, these were the
first neon colors to be produced for the public and rebranded as we know now it:
Electric blue. Neon, the element, was said to be discovered by British chemists
Sir William Ramsay and Morris W. Travers in 1898 in London, and went on to become
an element on the Periodic Table, but that’s another story for another
article.
Neon colors were perceived fluorescent,
young and youthful back in the 1980s; compared to an era of the 1970s when it
was considered colorless; plus the recession, the oil embargo and the
increasing use of drugs. In the 1980s, things were on the change with Reagan’s
new foreign policy, new capital flowing in wall street; people are with an
optimistic air of new hope. In the movies, actors would wear colorful neon
colors as well, and in real life people also wore these neon-colored
clothes to look bright and be cheerful.
The 1980s did mark the craze for neon
colors in fashion. The neon colors are still very popular in the
early 1990s, but it lasted for a short while and the designers started to try
something new. But back then, neon colors were the fashion choice of club kids
in the underground rave scene of New York and London. It was seen in makeup,
glitter and glow sticks and even in hair dye; which marked a new aspect of neon
colors in the fashion history.
The 2000s marked the era of the new millennium.
Neon colors also take new looks. It’s more demure and less showy and
exaggerating on your face than the neon of past eras. Dashes of bright, punchy
neon in fitness gear and on nails are likely where most will dabble in the
return of this offbeat trend.
This Year in 2019, Even before the London and
New York fashion weeks; neon colors back on the trend and especially neon
green this year. Different shades of neon green take on the street and make
all the other colors next to it so boring. It’s definitely the color to level up
your style this year if wear it in the right style and color match. And thus
brands feature pieces of this color in particular, like Dolce & Gabana.
Athleisure brands Abeātis also offers a neon collection this year, to
catch up with the trends.

fashion, neon colors as a bold element in fashion will definitely be ever
